Paranormal Mythology

-What is Mythology?

· Mythology specifically is the study of stories based on superstitions/beliefs usually having to do with a monster, gods and demi-gods, and creatures of the unknown.

Example: Vampires, werewolves, tooth fairy, Grendel, and just to give a modern example of the plethora of creatures "Hell boy II"

-How Did Myths Come About Or What Are They Based Off Of?

· According to David Carroll a freelance writer and computer programmer myths originated out of fear of the unknown.

· Myths go as far back as Greek and roman times but, quite possible since the dawn of human existence.

·  For example the most current theory to my knowledge of the origination of the vampires is:

It is believed that the myths or stories for our idea originated in central England and that it is possible a genetic liver disease Porphyria could be to blame. Porphyria is a genetic disease of the liver that affects the production of the blood which causes victims to be sensitive to sunlight, have receding gums and lips which give that common fang like appearance, and possibly extensive hair growth. *For more information on Vampire mythology please refer to David Carroll's website:http: //www.tabula-rasa.info/Horror/VampireMythos.html
